Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE/UT)

ACTEW’s Research Assistant Hong Zhu collaborated with researchers from the University of British Columbia to present the findings of their project, Women's Alternative and Informal Learning Pathways to Jobs in the IT Field, at the Rethinking Work and Learning: Research Findings and Policy Challenges International Conference at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE/UT). Building on the analysis of women working in the IT sector and their informal/non-formal learning experiences, these papers explore the tensions and paradoxes of: formal and informal, visible and invisible learning; the recognition of the value of on-the-job informal learning; the influence of secondary and post-secondary education in relation to gender; and careers in information technology.
