About Each Section & Making the SKP Online Work For You

Personal Information
In this section we will ask you for some personal information in order to build your profile of learning and skills. This information is private and will not be shared with anyone. Only you have access to this information.

Employment Information
In this section we ask you to describe your employment status, the kind of work you may do and your job skills.

Employment Related Formal Learning
In this section we ask you to think about the formal courses or training you have taken through your job(s). We also ask you what barriers you have encountered that might explain why you have been unable to take formal employment-related courses.

Employment Related Informal Learning
In this section we start to look at informal learning and ask you to think about the ways you learn on the job informally.

Personal Informal Learning
There are many worlds of learning outside our paid work and in this section we will ask you to explore and think about the informal learning you do in your personal life, family or community.

Volunteer Community based Learning
This section explores the time you spend helping in your community or volunteering. We also ask you to think about what learning you gain from this work.

Future Learning Plans
Here we ask you to report on your future learning plans and think about what supports you would need to meet these goals.

Self-confidence is an important aspect of one's ability to move forward in work or study. Many persons completing the print- and online-versions of the SKP comment that the exercise of reflecting and recording one's skills and knowledge increased their sense of self-esteem. It also allows an opportunity to collectively and critically reflect on the actual meaning of one's experiences and the relationship these experiences have to the notion of knowledge and skill.

We hope that by using the SKP to record their past learnings adult learners will be encouraged to continue and that educational and economic institutions will come on board to recognize the initiative and creativity that is revealed in the SKP document.
