ACTEW/Sistering Computer Literacy Course
(September 2001 - January 2002)
In partnership with
Sistering, an ACTEW member agency that provides drop-in
services for women who are homeless, socially isolated,
or who have low incomes, ACTEW developed a 10-session computer
literacy course. The course was designed to provide women
who had no previous computer exposure with a learning environment
that was as accessible and supportive as possible. By demystifying
computer technology, the course acknowledged the many barriers
that women experience and provided a solid foundation for
the further development of computer skills. Instructional
lab time was offered for one afternoon each week for ten
weeks, supplemented by additional volunteer-supported computer
lab access. Twenty Sistering clients participated in the
course in this successful pilot project.
