Steps
> Coordinate Ontario Agencies
to Raise Awareness on Women's Economic Issues
Symposium participants want to work with ACTEW in educating
the government and the public on the supports needed to
ensure women's economic self-sufficiency for all women,
including newcomers, women with disabilities, and sole-support
parents. ACTEW is striking up an Advisory Group and will
take the Summer of 2006 to develop a strategic plan of action
to coordinate our efforts.
> Liaise with Governments
to Address Women's Economic Self-Suffiency
Symposium participants asked ACTEW to take a lead in working
with the government LMDA implementation team to acknowledge
and support women-specific employment and training needs.
To this end, ACTEW will continue to take community concerns
to the "Voluntary
Sector Advisory Committee on Employment" at the
federal level and we will endeavour to have representation
on a new Advisory Committee being set up between the provincial
government and key stakeholders so that your concerns will
be heard by the decision makers.
> Disseminate Policy News,
Developments and Information to Community Agencies
Symposium participants asked ACTEW to provide up-to-date
information on policy development and implementation, and
facilitate information sharing among community agencies
across Ontario. To this end, ACTEW...
...set up an email list to facilitate conversation between
the Women's Directors of Local Boards across Ontario
...is setting up monthly email policy updates to keep you
informed
...is creating a mini-web site at www.actew.org/pwp
> Provide Professional Development
for Community Agencies
ACTEW will be holding regional meetings and workshops throughout
Ontario, providing training that meets the needs of local
communities. Workshops on Sustainable Livelihoods and Launching
Public Education campaigns were suggested as possible topics.
