Welcome, Immigrant Women on the move
Our newest member at ACTEW is Immigrant Women on the Move (IWOM). The organization encourages immigrant women to effectively utilize the skills, knowledge and experiences that they have acquired outside Canada and empowers them to creatively market these valuable skills to Canadian employers.
ACTEW invites practitioners who serve women survivors of partner abuse to participate in a brief survey. Tell us about the job search needs and employment barriers of survivors, strategies that make workplaces safer, and how to engage employers. Tell us about your needs as practitioners. This survey is part of Moving on to Success (MOTS), ACTEW's collaborative project with Springtide Resources and YWCA Toronto. Do the survey online or contact MOTS@actew.org for a paper copy.
Our project manager Hema Vyas is leaving ACTEW on May 25. We are sad to see her go and wish her well in future career endeavours. ACTEW would like to welcome Nadine Scott to the team. Nadine will act as Interim Project Manager for the Constellation project. Nadine is graduating with a Master's in Environmental Studies (York University) and has worked extensively in the women's employment and training sector in Toronto.
Join Canada's largest network of women's training and employment services. Becoming an ACTEW member gives you access to networking opportunities, as well as regular meetings and training seminars on current topics affecting women's training and employment. In a study released on May 3, Statistics Canada reported that the median market income of female lone-parent families, at $22,200, remained virtually unchanged from 2004.
