Actew's new mission and mandate
Through funding from the Trillium Foundation, ACTEW is undergoing a strategic planning and resource development process. Supporting Survivors/Supporting New workshops available
ACTEW is pleased to announce that the Supporting Survivors/Supporting Employment Project was a huge success with extensive waiting lists for each of the one-day workshops! While we could only accommodate 100 participants in four communities, ACTEW is thrilled to announce that more workshops will be available for a nominal fee.
Stay tuned to ACTEW's website for more information; or if you would like to request a specialized training for your agency's professional development, please contact Trish McNamara at trish@actew.org. We will be happy to bring the workshop to you!
ACTEW thanks the project funder, the Ministry of the Attorney General, Ontario Victims Services Secretariat, as well as the workforce development boards of Kingston, Toronto, Vaughan and Brantford for their contributions.
Evaluation of the Content-Sharing Constellation Project
ACTEW is undertaking a formal evaluation of the Content Sharing Constellation Project. The goals of the evaluation are to assess the strengths and weakness of the existing model and to identify opportunities for growth and change. The results will help identify the elements of the next version of the project. We have contracted with Barbara Williams to conduct the evaluation.
ACTEW welcomes your feedback, comments or questions. Please send your comments or questions to:

Campaign to Support Working Families
The care of young children and the quality of life of working parents do not rate high in the priorities list of our federal government and of most provincial governments. Second Career Strategy
The Second Career Strategy helps workers who have been laid off within the last year and are unemployed to find new careers, whether they are eligible for EI or not. Workers can learn to transfer their skills to other in-demand fields and get assistance with tuition, books, living expenses and other retraining costs. Training can take anywhere from six months to two years with an additional year available when academic upgrading is needed. Contact your local employment and training agency for more information.

The Right to Learn: Report Released
In May 2007, trustees with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) unanimously passed the Students Without Legal Immigration Status policy. This policy confirms non-status immigrant students’ right to education. One year later, the Community Social Planning Council of Toronto (CSPC-T) checked up on the Toronto District School Board's (TDSB) progress in implementing that policy and found that it is not fully implemented at the school level. Read the report and follow-up here.
