Service Delivery Advisory Group
ACTEW attended the Service Advisory Delivery Group (SDAG) meeting with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) on October 19. Assistant Deputy Minister Laurie LeBlanc responded to issues raised in the letter sent to her by SDAG in early September, which included questions about Employment Ontario transition timelines and specialized services. Also discussed were changes to the Second Career Strategy and the Ontario Self Employment Benefit.

ACTEW Members Meeting: Preparing for Change
ACTEW held a teleconference members meeting on October 19 with 15 agency representatives from across the province to report on the Service Advisory Delivery Group (SDAG) meeting with MTCU. We discussed the Employment Ontario transition and the impact of recent changes to MTCU-funded programs on service delivery.

The Career Practitioner's Toolkit on Violence Against Women
ACTEW's new toolkit looks at the impact of violence in intimate partnerships on women's employment and training. It includes tips, strategies and resources for career practitioners as they guide women to new futures. The toolkit is available for download from the ACTEW web site in French and English. ACTEW members will receive a print copy of the kit by mail. Please help us evaluate the toolkit by taking the online survey, also available on our website.

Updated ACTEW Factsheet on Women's Access to EI: Decreasing Training
Two in every three working women who pay into EI will not receive benefits if they lose their jobs. Women are also much less likely than men to receive EI training benefits. Only 21% of EI trainees in Ontario last year were women, the lowest number for the province on record.

Ontario's Employment Programs Exceed Expectations
Due to extremely high demand, MTCU reports that it must revamp or temporary close various programs. Ten thousand people entered college this September through the Second Career Strategy, a number that far exceeded expectations for the program. MTCU is accepting SCS applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis and revising applicant criteria. MTCU has also stopped accepting applications for the Ontario Self Employment Benefit (OSEB).

Call for Referral Success Stories
Does your agency use innovative and successful referral practices with job-seeking women and/or youth? First Work: OAYEC is looking for stories that show how organizations address the various systemic issues and barriers clients face. Stories will reflect the diversity of the province, with representation from organizations serving urban, suburban, and rural settings in the north, central, southern, western and eastern regions of Ontario.

Endorse the Ontario Disability Declaration
The ODSP Action Coalition is asking for endorsements of its Disability Declaration. The Declaration describes rights that people with disabilities have according to the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities and what changes the Ontario government needs to make to fulfill those rights.
