ACTEW BOARD AND STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS

ACTEW is pleased to announce new Board Members and a new Board Executive. We also congratulate our Executive Director, Deanna Yerichuk, as she begins her maternity leave. Program Manager, Paula Wansbrough, will be ACTEW’s Interim Executive Director until January 2009, at which point Deanna will return to her post. We wish all the best to Deanna and her family.

ACTEW To present at Literacy Link Niagara Conference- "Building pathways for success" june 5th, 2008

Building upon our award winning Content-Sharing Constellation project, ACTEW regional trainers Lynda Beavis and Trish McNamara will deliver an extensive workshop on 'Using Technology to Build Partnerships" at the upcoming "Building Pathways for Success" Conference in St. Catherines on June 5th, 2008. The summit, hosted by Literacy Link Niagara, invites participants from Niagara's adult education and training sector to learn more about 'Adult Learning Partnerships'. ACTEW will provide participants with tools, tips and technology resources for building collaborative technology partnerships.

Actew on panel for the "Sharing for social change" Conference June 18th, 2008

ACTEW will speak on a panel for "Sharing Technology: Using the Internet to Build Shared Solutions" at the Sharing for Social Change Conference in Toronto, June 18th, 2008. The Conference, hosted by the Centre for Social Innovation and Tides/Sage Centre, invites non-profit organizations in Ontario who are exploring new forms of shared space and services. ACTEW was selected as one of the pioneering organizations in this field and will speak to other non-profit organizations about the experiences of developing technology partnerships through the Content-Sharing Constellation Project.

Advancing referral processes project - results are in

The information gathering aspect of this project is complete. Staff from 30 agencies within the youth and women’s employment and training sectors discussed current referral processes and challenges. The five focus groups were segmented by the urban or rural location of the service agency as well as by the target client group. Advancing Referral Processes is a partnership between ACTEW and the Ontario Association of Youth Employment Centres, with research conducted by Evidence, OAYEC’s evaluation and consulting service. The project report will be available in June.

ACTEW is pleased to welcome two new Associate members: NYWCA Toronto -Scarborough Village Employment Resource Centre and YWCA Niagara Region - Women's Resource Centre. The Scarborough Village Employment Resource Centre (formerly Morningside Employment Resource Centre) improves access to the world of work through practical job search workshops, up-to-date computer and internet equipment, as well as individual employment coaching, workshops, employer showcases and job search resources. The YWCA Niagara Region - Women's Resource Centre offers employment services exclusively to women addressing areas such as job search / job finding and provides workshops, one-on-one consultations and networking sessions.

Second Career Strategy Implemented in June

Information on Employment Ontario’s new Second Career Strategy will be available on the Employment Ontario Partners’ Gateway site at www.eopg.ca by June 1, 2008. The Second Career Strategy will provide financial support to recently laid-off, unemployed workers (both EI and non-EI eligible individuals) who require training in high-demand, high-skill occupations.

Local Immigration Partnerships - Call for Proposals Deadline: June 3, 2008

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI) has released a Call for Proposals for programs that strengthen the role of local neighbourhoods in serving and integrating immigrants through Local Immigration Partnerships. Local Immigration Partnerships seek to help communities put immigration on their overall planning agenda in order to benefit from the successful social and economic integration of new immigrants.

ONESTEP's Performance Management Training Program

ONESTEP will be delivering a Performance Management Training Program for Managers in the employment sector. This valuable two-day workshop will provide participants with experience in employee performance management discussions and how to conduct effective performance goal setting, feedback, review and appraisals.

The Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science, Trades and Technology (CCWESTT) will have its 12th annual conference in Guelph, May 29-31.
